In the first scene Kora enters the courtroom on her own accord in a cute little black dress. She is looking nice and professional for her nerve wracking moment in front of the judge. She’s ready to hear the jury’s verdict, but unfortunately for this young defendant, it’s not going to be in her favor.
The judge announces a guilty verdict, and the bailiff places her in handcuffs. Kora is told she will have a chance to speak before the final sentencing.
Ms. Summers is then brought to a jail intake area, where she is handcuffed to the bench while the officer goes to get her new clothes for her. He brings her a pair of orange scrubs, and a white long sleeve thermal undershirt. Kora is told to strip and put on the uniform she will be wearing for the next phase of her life. She strips down, and the guard reminds her that her underwear and socks need to come off too. She’s not an innocent college girl anymore, she’s a convicted felon. She doesn’t seem to like this, but the only clothes she’s going to get are the ones the state provides for her. It’s time to start getting used to that…
