I’ve been trying to make this film for years. I love hot wax play – it was one of the things I was most keen to do when I first got the chance to do BDSM for real. It just seems so dramatic and intense, the candle flame in surrounding darkness, the controllability of slow drips or a torrent of wax, the choice of target areas to control the intensity of stimulation. Raising or lowering the candle to have the wax land harder and cooler, or gentle but hotter. The way the sensation builds and plateaus as the wax forms a seal over wrinkled soles or burning bum, but how a few wiggles and moans can crack the wax and let drops get access to the sensitised skin beneath again – often trapping the heat as the wax gets under the previous seal and leading to a much longer burn than the first drops were capable of providing. With a suitable choice of candle the wax looks dramatic as fuck, but so long as it is a relatively cool-burning synthetic candle, there’s no danger of actual burns so it’s one of the safest forms of really intense sensation play.
It can be a very intense and intimate experience and I think I’ve captured that in some of my previous films. But what I was missing was a focus on detail, the way that drips of wax landing on a bare wrinkled sole drives all of the bottom’s attention to focus on that one small part of her body. To really do that close focus I needed a lens that literally would focus really close, that would get you right in on the action in the middle of the falling wax. I needed a probe macro lens, so I could film the wax falling in true closeup. Not from afar but up close and personal.
And of course I needed a responsive performance partner who I already knew had a bit of a thing for wax play – the one and only Scarlett Foxett!
